Course overview

Course Details

This is a work-based learning module designed to support the advancing practice of therapeutic radiographers.

This workbased learning module develops therapeutic radiographer’s competence in independent breast localisation for radiotherapy. Most learning takes place through supervised clinical practice, with students expected to understand and work within their local clinical protocols. Alongside key clinical experience, students engage in online, independent study facilitated by a module leader to strengthen their clinical reasoning, decisionmaking, and ability to evaluate their own practice.

The module encourages an inquirybased approach, enabling students to critically review evidence, contemporary practice and research relevant to breast localisation. Key areas of study include patientcentred management, breast anatomy and pathology, imaging and diagnostics, the role of radiotherapy in breast cancer treatment, professional and ethical considerations, advanced communication, localisation, planning and dosimetry, treatment prescriptions, radiobiology and radiation effects.

Learning is supported through electronic resources, optional attendance at virtual classroom sessions, and ongoing guidance and formative feedback from the module leader to foster knowledge, understanding and skills development and prepare students for successful assessment.
